In the beginning.. there were credits.

Most movies begin with an opening sequence.
They director usually does this to introduce the audience to the
actors in the movie and to credit the people that helped create the movie.
The order to the credits usually places the director first, then the producers and finally the actors.

The sequence is usually separated into different shots. Usually having the text appearing on screen whilst there is an image behind, or having the text on a separate shot on its own. The credits allow people to know who's in the movie and who did what for the movie.
Opening credits also allow the directors to introduce their team
whilst setting the scene for their movie.

Some opening sequences have become famous through out the movie history for example James Bond opening sequence have inspired other movie to become more experimental.
By constructing a lively opening sequence the audience is intrigued to continue watching.
