Teen Films ; THEN & NOW

(Endless Love 1981)                                                                (Endless Love 2014)

Endless love is about a privileged girl and a charismatic boy whose instant desire sparks a love affair made only more reckless by parents trying to keep them apart. When it comes to remaking a film or taking parts of a film its important to make it still appeal to its target audience and relate back to the original. Endless love (2014)  had very disappointing reviews on its film even though the original was a smash hit love teen film.

As the inspiration for our teen movie will be on lines of La Haine. I wanted to incorporate some shots from the movie and because it is such an iconic film when it comes to violence and teenagers. I would have to be careful to not disturb that within our teen opening. Personally what went wrong with the second movie is, first of all when you have a timeless classic there should be no remake because its always disappointing. However now watching both films its clear that there are similarities and the most important ones which show the contrast and similarity are ....

Mis-en-scene (Lighting)

The lighting quality will obviously be different as they are from different eras however the lighting that we see when the characters together are quite strong but fainted to represent as if together they are in another world. With high key lighting it indicates a realistic feeling. however because personally its like another Romeo and Juliet film where their love is forbidden when they are sneaking about there is a slight darkness in the room as it shows mystery and curiosity.

Whereas the 1981 there isn't as much high key lighting but more low key. Maybe its because of the era it was shot in but even still we see again mystery between the two characters. Also with the low key lighting we see deep distant shadows which isn't rare in romance films however because there love is forbidden it creates suspicion.

Sound

Although the 2014 version is much more modern we still see the same outcome, a strong love message through the song. However unlike the 2014 version the 1981 Endless Love had many nominations for its powerful song Endless Love sung by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie. Both songs capture the romance and essence of the film without even watching them. By the music we can see the relationship between the two characters and the thoughts and feelings that run through them.
